I think the best systems for shooters are the PC Engine and Japanese Sega Saturn. Man, there are so many that only came out on those consoles. I love shooters and these consoles are a dream for me. I think i'm going down my basement to play some PC Engine Soldier Blade and Star Soldier and Saturn, Souky and Salamander. That's my idea of agreat few hours , better than watching tv anytime.

My favourites are Mega Drive and Saturn. I especially like SOl DEace, Crying, Space Invaders'90 and the Thunder Force games on the Mega Drive. On the Saturn there are so many to choose from, i have a bout 9 or 10 i particulary like.

I like PC Engine shooters as well though, especially Galaga '88.

i agree with the sega saturn as there are so many great shooters on it such as gunbird, battle garrega, batsgun etc. judgement silversword on the wonderswan is another great shooter , shame they didnt release more shooters on the wonderswan.

I may be changing my mind to saying my favourite system for shooters is the P C Engine. There are so many and many are so faithfull to the original arcade versions. Been playing PCE Image Fight, Galaga `88 and many more the last few days. Great stuff!!!

I would have to agree with Saturn and PC Engine, though i think Dreamcast has some great ones too.

Been playing a lot of shooters mostly on SS, PCE and MD lately. Overall i still think PCE is king. The amount of titles is breathtaking and th amount of quality shooters with fantastic gameplay is truely unbeatable.l

I think i have to decide on the PCE as there are just so many classic and they have that great retro feel to them. I think AES and NGCD had potentila to have been a great system for shooters. Shame so few made.

I have most of the Saturn shooters so I think I can safely say that I like the Saturn best for shooters, the Megadrive also has quite a few that I really like (Battle Mania 2 being my favorite although it was a big hit on my wallet) it´s a shame so many of them are crazy expensive (Eliminate down :( ) although after taking years to get the Saturn shooters I should not complain too much, the pce also looks great with it´s huge shooting library but I don´t have many shooters for it yet, maybe as my pce collection slowly grows I will change my mind

Some of the PCE shooters are fantastic and give not only the 8and 16 bit but carcade feel of the time. Been playing a lot of PCE myself lately, mostly Cyber Core, Galaga `88 and 1943. I never tire of the PCE for shooters but the Mega Drive is still my favourite console of the time.

My vote goes for the DC. There are so many shooters to choose from although many of the later Japanese titles cost a fortune!

Has anyone here played Border Down? It's obscene how much that game sell for on eBay - it can't be worith it?!?!?

Ironically my most played DC shooter is probably Gunbird 2 which is cheap as chips but a lot of fun. Last Hope is great too but a bit hard.

Border Down is pretty classy but does cost far too much. Bought mine for about 20GBP shortly after release, one of my lucky finds. I enjoy playing Mars Matrix quite often but most of my recent shooting fun has been on the PCE and PCE CD, recebtly bought Super Side Arms, Daisenpu Custom and Forgotten Worlds, all of which are fantastic retro quality.

I can't say I've played a PC Engine although there is an impressive library of games for the system.

Found out the other week that Sturmwind for the DC has been delayed until Nov 11. Pity, I've been waiting for this title since it's previous incarnation "Native Demo" for the Jag CD about a decade ago. It looks like it'll be a great shooter.

The best system for shooters is none. They all look nice, and have their kinks to them:D. For 2d games that would be the famicom, PC engine, and Genesis. The SNES also has it's SONY sound systems that makes echoing effects. Saturn is overkill in the 2d department along with any  other 3d system. Some systems like the GCN, and  Dreamcast had shooters that with special graphics and effects only in 3d. X-box is basically the same as PC games, alongside any other OS.

It is like which system is best for megaman? It does not matter which system you put the game on, they have their kinks.

I am also tired of the word retro. There is nothing retro about pong. It is those evil teather people that are creating the word. I just say Standard videogames, compared to Future gaming.

I still go with my view that PCE is the best, well best for the types of games i prefer. I am not so much into new shooters i much prefer the late 80's to early 90's period. This was the time i could start to afford long gaming sessions in arcades. Most people were into playing the fighting games but it was always shooters for me and most were only 10p a credit. PCE is teh master for arcade conversions from that period.
